The FSA advises that packaging for raw meat, poultry and fish can harbour harmful bacteria which can pose a risk of food poisoning.

Biomaster antimicrobial technology inhibits the growth of bacteria, fungi, mould and yeast to reduce the bacterial load and risk of spread.

This technology is increasingly inexpensive to specify and can be incorporated into existing flexible film packaging production processes with ease.

Antimicrobial protection for flexible films

Demand for antimicrobial packaging is growing each year and there are expectations that the global market for antimicrobial additives in packaging will be worth over $10bn by 2021.

Producing antimicrobial flexible film packaging incorporating Biomaster technology provides long-lasting and effective protection for single and multilayer packaging for bags, pouches, labels, lids, trays, liners and wraps.

Biomaster’s versatility enables common film materials such as Polyethylene (PE), Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and Polypropylene (PP) as well as biodegradable polymers constructed from polyactic acids (PLAs) to benefit from antimicrobial protection.

Antimicrobial food packaging in meat industry

Studies from the FSA have found that up to 7% of raw chicken packaging in UK supermarkets show traces of Campylobacter, the equivalent of around 9 million packets.

Biomaster inhibits the growth of bacteria such as Campylobacter, E. coli, Salmonella and Listeria as well as moulds and yeast on the outer packaging of fresh meat and poultry packaging, including flexible film packaging, lidded film packs and trays.

Incorporating Biomaster antimicrobial technology into the external packaging results in the growth of common food poisoning bacteria being impeded, reducing the risk of bacterial transmission from the outer packaging at the point of sale.

Antimicrobial technology for any production process

With expert technical knowledge of the polymer industry we’ll advise the best Biomaster grade and route of application for any production process should it be injection moulding, extrusion, blow moulding or rotomoulding.

We’ll help you specify a bespoke solution to suit your end product’s exact requirements, without disrupting your production process or supply chain and avoiding any dullness in colours or cloudiness in clear plastics.

Our additives do not wear off or leach out over time, providing long-lasting and effective product protection from harmful microbes which can cause discolouration, odour and degradation.

Features & benefits

  • Independent testing

All of our antimicrobial treated solutions are independently tested at a leading laboratory to ISO 22196 to ensure of a high quality efficacy against the microbes your product and end application requires.

  • Free of charge samples

We can provide free-of-charge antimicrobial masterbatch samples for you to test or manufacture plaques of your chosen polymer incorporating a specified Biomaster masterbatch and test for you.

  • Expert support - with no licence fees

Unlike other antimicrobial additive suppliers, there are no licence fees for using our technology.  You get the support of our technical, regulatory and marketing experts free of charge to help make your product a success.

How Biomaster works

Biomaster can be added at any stage of the manufacturing process and is available in masterbatch, liquid or powder formulations for plastics, textiles, paper and coatings.

When bacteria come into contact with a Biomaster protected surface, the active antimicrobial agent prevents them from growing, producing energy or replicating, inhibiting any further growth.

The controlled release of the active ingredient provides powerful, effective antimicrobial protection for the lifetime of the product.
