The Product
CMC Hygea is an innovative medical technology company specialising in infection prevention and lower limb wound management. For more than a decade, the company has researched, designed and manufactured award-winning Class I medical devices that help healthcare professionals reduce the risk of cross-contamination whilst improving patient care. Its PathAguard® product portfolio has been developed specifically for use in hospitals, community healthcare and clinical environments, supporting infection prevention during wound cleansing, lower limb care and hygiene procedures.
To further enhance its products, CMC Hygea has incorporated Biomaster antimicrobial technology across the entire PathAguard range. The partnership between CMC Hygea and Addmaster has now spanned more than ten years, with Biomaster continuing to provide permanent antimicrobial product protection as an integral part of every product.
The Challenge
Healthcare professionals face increasing pressure to reduce the risk of healthcare-associated infections whilst maintaining efficient patient care. Products used during wound cleansing and lower limb treatment are frequently handled by clinicians and patients, making contamination control an important consideration throughout product development.
CMC Hygea wanted to develop a range of innovative medical devices that not only improved clinical workflows but also supported modern infection prevention strategies. The solution needed to provide continuous antimicrobial product protection without changing the products' performance, usability or manufacturing processes.
Just as importantly, the technology had to complement existing cleaning and infection control procedures, providing healthcare providers with additional confidence in demanding clinical environments.
The Solution
Having evaluated the available technologies, CMC Hygea selected Biomaster antimicrobial technology from Addmaster for use throughout its product portfolio.
Biomaster is permanently incorporated into the polymer during manufacture, becoming an integral part of the finished product rather than a surface treatment. Using proven silver ion technology, Biomaster continuously inhibits the growth of microbes on the protected surface throughout the product's lifetime.
Because the technology is built into the material itself, it cannot be wiped away or wear off during normal use. It requires no maintenance, has no impact on product performance and integrates seamlessly into CMC Hygea's existing manufacturing processes.
Over more than a decade of collaboration, Addmaster has also provided ongoing technical expertise, regulatory guidance and product development support, helping CMC Hygea continue to innovate within the healthcare sector.

Today, Biomaster is incorporated across CMC Hygea's complete PathAguard product range, supporting the company's mission to develop innovative medical devices that help reduce the risk of cross-contamination in healthcare environments.
