CC Matting
Engineering contamination control into critical environments with built-in Biomaster antimicrobial product protection
CC Matting provides specialist polymeric contamination-control matting for cleanrooms, critical areas and other controlled environments. Designed to attract, collect and retain particulates transferred by footwear and wheeled equipment, its solutions can be configured around individual facilities and applications.
By incorporating Biomaster antimicrobial technology into selected polymeric matting products, CC Matting has added built-in antimicrobial product protection to a wider contamination-control solution designed around material performance, installation, cleaning and the practical demands of critical environments.
The Product
In controlled environments, contamination can be introduced and transferred through the routine movement of people and equipment. Footwear, trolleys, pallet trucks and other wheeled equipment can carry particulates between different areas of a facility, making transition points an important consideration within the wider contamination-control strategy.
CC Matting specialises in high-performance polymeric contamination-control matting designed specifically for these demanding environments. Its products are engineered to attract, collect and retain particulates transferred by footwear and wheels, helping facilities manage particulate transfer at important transition and entry points.
Rather than offering a single standard solution, CC Matting provides a range of products designed around different applications, traffic requirements and installation environments.
Heavy-Duty Polymeric Matting
CC Matting Heavy-Duty Polymeric Matting is designed for areas exposed to regular pedestrian and wheeled traffic. Its high-performance surface attracts, collects and retains particulates carried by footwear and wheels.
Portable Cleanroom Mats
CC Matting Portable and Data Centre Matting deliver the same contamination-control performance in a loose-laid, flexible format, allowing rapid deployment where permanent installation isn't required.
CC Matting Data Centre Mats
Dust and particulates carried on footwear and cart casters can be drawn into server racks by high-velocity cooling systems, potentially contributing to component degradation. CC Matting Data Centre Matting helps capture particulates at key transition and entry points before they reach critical equipment.
Together, CC Matting's Heavy-Duty Polymeric Matting, Portable Cleanroom Mats and Data Centre Mats provide different approaches to managing particulate transfer across cleanrooms, pharmaceutical facilities, laboratories, semiconductor manufacturing, data centres and other critical environments.
Within selected polymeric products, the addition of Biomaster antimicrobial technology from Addmaster introduces another material-performance feature, providing built-in antimicrobial product protection alongside the particulate-retention, durability, configuration and installation characteristics of the CC Matting system.
The Challenge
The requirements placed on contamination-control matting can be considerable.
Depending on the installation, a mat may experience repeated pedestrian traffic as well as movement from trolleys, pallet trucks and other wheeled equipment. It must perform its particulate-retention function while remaining practical to clean, maintain and integrate into the surrounding environment.
Different facilities can also present very different requirements. The size of the transition area, volume and type of traffic, substrate, cleaning procedures and operating conditions can all influence how an appropriate matting system should be specified.
For CC Matting, this meant considering more than particulate retention alone. The company wanted antimicrobial technology to form part of the material specification of selected polymeric matting products, providing an additional product-protection feature within the finished material.
Crucially, the role of the antimicrobial technology needed to remain clearly defined. The polymeric surface would continue to perform the physical particulate-retention function for which the matting had been developed. Cleaning, maintenance and established contamination-control procedures would also remain essential.
The requirement was therefore for antimicrobial product protection that could be incorporated directly into the polymer itself and complement these existing functions rather than attempt to replace them.
The Solution
CC Matting incorporated Biomaster antimicrobial additive technology into the polymer composition of selected treated matting products during manufacture.
Integrating the technology at the material stage means that the antimicrobial component becomes part of the treated polymer rather than relying on a temporary post-applied surface treatment.
Biomaster helps inhibit microbial growth on the treated mat surface and helps reduce microbial build-up on the treated material. Its role is specifically to provide antimicrobial product protection to the treated polymer. This creates two separate but complementary functions within the CC Matting product.
The polymeric matting surface is designed to attract, collect and retain particulates transferred by footwear and wheels. Biomaster antimicrobial technology is incorporated into the treated polymer to inhibit microbial growth on the mat surface. Maintaining this distinction is important.
Biomaster does not provide the physical particulate-retention function of the matting, nor does antimicrobial technology remove the requirement for appropriate cleaning, disinfection, maintenance or the contamination-control procedures established by the facility.
Instead, it becomes an additional material-performance feature within CC Matting's wider engineered solution. The integration also supports CC Matting's approach to designing solutions around individual environments.
Heavy-duty polymeric matting can be configured to suit the required installation area and installed by CC Matting's own trained personnel, while portable solutions provide an alternative where permanent installation is not appropriate.
Antimicrobial product protection can therefore sit alongside the material specification, particulate-retention performance, configuration, installation and maintenance requirements considered when developing the complete solution.
The Results
The collaboration between CC Matting and Addmaster has enabled antimicrobial technology to become an integrated feature of selected polymeric contamination-control products.
Rather than introducing antimicrobial functionality as a separate surface treatment after the mat has been manufactured, Biomaster can be incorporated directly into the treated material as part of the product specification.
For CC Matting, this creates an additional product-protection feature within a contamination-control portfolio already designed around demanding environments. It also provides a clear technical proposition for customers, facility teams and specifiers.
The polymeric surface performs the physical particulate-retention function. Biomaster provides antimicrobial product protection to the treated polymer.
Cleaning, maintenance and established facility contamination-control procedures continue to perform their own essential roles.
Keeping these functions clearly separated allows CC Matting to communicate the antimicrobial feature responsibly while continuing to lead with the fundamental performance characteristics of its products, including particulate retention, durability, configuration, installation and maintenance.
The application also demonstrates a broader principle in material and product development.
When antimicrobial technology is considered at the material-design stage, it can be incorporated into the finished product specification rather than added as an afterthought.
For CC Matting, Biomaster provides that built-in antimicrobial component within an engineered polymeric contamination-control system developed for demanding environments.
“Our customers operate in environments where contamination control, material performance and durability all matter. We don't see matting as simply something placed at an entrance; it needs to be considered as part of the way a critical area operates. Incorporating Biomaster into our treated polymeric matting allows us to build antimicrobial product protection into the material itself while retaining the practical performance, durability and installation capabilities our customers require.” Brendan Neary, CEO, CC Matting
“CC Matting is a great example of how antimicrobial technology can form one carefully defined part of a much wider engineered product. Biomaster is incorporated into the polymer to provide antimicrobial product protection for the treated mat, while CC Matting brings together the material, particulate-retention performance, configuration, installation and maintenance requirements of the complete solution. It demonstrates the value of considering antimicrobial technology at the material-design stage rather than treating it as an afterthought.” Paul Willocks, Global Marketing Director, Addmaster
