Be-Plas Sterling Antimicrobial Wall Cladding

Building Antimicrobial Product Protection into Hygienic Wall Cladding

Elite Sterling is a high-performance hygienic wall cladding system from Be-Plas, designed for demanding environments where cleanliness, durability and ease of maintenance are important considerations. By incorporating Biomaster antimicrobial technology into the material, Be-Plas has added built-in antimicrobial product protection to the surface as part of the cladding’s overall design.

The Product

Be-Plas specialises in hygienic wall and ceiling systems for environments where surfaces need to withstand demanding conditions, frequent cleaning and everyday use.

Elite Sterling is the company’s antimicrobial hygienic wall cladding solution, combining the practical properties of rigid PVC wall cladding with Biomaster silver-ion antimicrobial technology.

Designed for applications across hospitals and healthcare facilities, food catering and manufacturing environments, schools and education settings, and other hygiene-critical spaces, Elite Sterling provides a smooth, non-porous and easy-to-clean surface that can form part of a considered approach to interior specification.

Unlike an antimicrobial treatment applied to the finished surface, Biomaster is incorporated into the material during manufacture. This means antimicrobial product protection becomes an integral feature of the cladding itself.

The Challenge

Across hygiene-critical environments, maintaining clean and well-managed surfaces depends on many different measures working together.

Cleaning and disinfection procedures, staff practices, operational protocols and environmental design all have important roles to play. The materials specified throughout a building are another part of that wider picture, particularly in busy environments where surfaces must withstand frequent use and regular cleaning.

Wall surfaces represent a substantial area within most environments. They must be durable, easy to maintain and capable of withstanding the regular and, in some settings, intensive cleaning regimes required to keep these spaces well maintained.

For Be-Plas, the opportunity was to go beyond the conventional characteristics of hygienic wall cladding by introducing antimicrobial functionality directly into the material.

The antimicrobial solution needed to complement the physical properties of the cladding, withstand regular cleaning and provide consistent treated-surface protection without requiring an additional coating or repeated application.

The Solution

Be-Plas incorporated Biomaster silver-ion antimicrobial technology into Elite Sterling during manufacture, making antimicrobial product protection an integral part of the finished wall cladding.

On the treated surface, Biomaster silver ions act at multiple sites within susceptible microbial cells, interfering with essential processes and helping to inhibit microbial growth.

Because the technology is built into the material rather than applied as a temporary surface treatment, the antimicrobial functionality is designed to remain effective for the useful lifetime of the treated material.

This gives Elite Sterling an additional performance characteristic alongside the qualities already required from hygienic wall cladding: durability, cleanability and suitability for demanding environments.

By considering antimicrobial performance as part of the material specification, Be-Plas has created a wall cladding system in which product protection is built in from the outset.

The Results

The resulting Elite Sterling system combines the established benefits of hygienic PVC wall cladding with built-in Biomaster antimicrobial product protection.

For architects, specifiers, facilities teams and operators across healthcare, food catering and manufacturing, education and other hygiene-critical sectors, this provides another consideration when selecting materials for environments where cleanliness and effective surface management are priorities.

For Be-Plas, Biomaster adds a clearly defined functional benefit to an established product category and helps differentiate Elite Sterling within the hygienic wall cladding market.

Perhaps most importantly, the product reflects a wider principle in the design and management of hygiene-critical environments: maintaining cleaner surfaces is not dependent on any single intervention.

Cleaning regimes, working practices, building design and material selection all form part of a much larger system. Whether the setting is a hospital ward, a food production facility, a commercial kitchen or a school, materials can be selected with cleanability, durability and treated-surface protection in mind.

Elite Sterling demonstrates how that thinking can be applied to something as fundamental as the walls around us.

“Hygiene-critical environments all have their own challenges, but the need for durable, easy-to-clean surfaces is consistent across sectors. Material specification can play an important role, and by incorporating Biomaster antimicrobial technology into our Elite Sterling range, we can provide built-in antimicrobial product protection alongside the durability, cleanability and performance required from a hygienic wall cladding system.” Jay Moorhouse, Director, Be-Plas

“Elite Sterling is a great example of what can be achieved when antimicrobial performance is considered as part of material specification rather than as an afterthought. Be-Plas has combined the practical requirements of hygienic wall cladding with built-in Biomaster product protection, creating a clearly differentiated solution for demanding environments.” Paul Willocks, Global Marketing Director, Addmaster
