Within the healthcare sector, Biomaster antimicrobial technology stands out as a leading solution for product protection against harmful microbes that can potentially cause infection.

The integration of Biomaster into healthcare products is seamless, serving as a valuable complement to established cleaning and infection prevention protocols. This integrated approach plays a pivotal role in significantly reducing the risks associated with cross-contamination.

Antimicrobial technology for healthcare

Healthcare-associated infections (HCAIs) and hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) are among the most common complications of hospital care.

Thorough hygiene and cleaning protocols are becoming increasingly important in helping to reduce the risk of microbial cross-contamination in critical environments.

With more pressure on healthcare services over recent years to reduce numbers of HCAIs, it’s important to identify other cost-effective options to reduce the opportunities pathogens have to spread.

The issue does not just affect hospitals as care homes, doctors’ surgeries, drop-in centres, domiciliary and respite care and any other environments where patients are being treated are all key areas for infection control.

Biomaster antimicrobial technology for healthcare

Biomaster provides a second line of defence in hygiene critical environments, reducing bacterial levels on product surfaces and in high-traffic, shared areas to provide an added level of protection in addition to regular cleaning.

Independently tested to ISO standards, Biomaster protected surfaces have been proven to inhibit the growth of harmful bacteria, including MRSA, VRE, Acinetobacter baumannii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Klebsiella pneumoniae amongst others.

There is also evidence to suggest that incorporating antimicrobial technology into a ward can reduce the bacterial load on non-treated surfaces, providing a more hygienic environment.

How Biomaster works

Biomaster can be added at any stage of the manufacturing process and is available in masterbatch, liquid or powder formulations for plastics, textiles, paper and coatings.

When bacteria come into contact with a Biomaster protected surface, the active antimicrobial agent prevents them from growing, producing energy or replicating, inhibiting any further growth.

The controlled release of the active ingredient provides powerful, effective antimicrobial protection for the lifetime of the product.
