Biomaster at Forefront of Regulatory Guidance

26 May 2011
Biomaster® Antimicrobial Technology The use and marketing of antimicrobial additives in the UK domestic market is becoming a widely-accepted practice, however not all suppliers and users of this technology are falling into line with the requirements of the BPD/R (Biocidal Products Directive/Regulations).

The aim of the BPD/R is to harmonise all biocidal products, including silver ion technology such as that used in the Biomaster® Antimicrobial Technology range of additives. This harmonisation allows EU member states, currently consisting of most European countries, to freely accept the import of these products and also to allow them to be incorporated into commercially available products.

The BPD/R also ensures that human, animal and environmental health is not affected by the use of registered biocides, and that the products themselves are as effective against bacteria, fungi, algae or viruses as the claims made.

All Biomaster Antimicrobial Technology products are registered under the BPD/R, assuring customers’ compliance with the regulations. Most Biomaster products are also compliant with the United States FDA (Food & Drug Administration) and EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) which allows them to be imported into the States and incorporated into products using the FIFRA guidelines (Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act).

Addmaster (UK) Ltd is the exclusive supplier of Biomaster, and the staff are well trained in the global regulatory compliances that need to be met for Biomaster products to be marketed and sold on a global basis. The incorrect marketing of a product containing a biocide can not only lead to large fines levied by organisations such as the FDA, but also a loss of credibility for the company in question. Apart from expertly trained staff at the UK headquarters, Addmaster also employs the services of regulatory lawyers in key market areas to provide specific additional support in the interpretation of regulations at local level.

Addmaster has recently won The Queen’s Award for International Trade which, in large part, is a reflection of the ability of the company to trade its products in export markets as a result of the regulatory knowledge and compliances gained.
